Photos!

I’ve had an action-packed 3 days in Hong Kong. Lisa and Matt have shown me most of the Trip Advisor top 10 things to do in Hong Kong, including:

The view from Victoria Peak
Man Mo Temple
Chi Lin Nunnery
Nan Lian gardens

Hong Kong skyline at night
The Big Buddha at Ngong Ping
I also saw the Ladies Market, and some of the other street markets, ate Dim Sum and did a lot of walking.

Being here on New Year’s Eve also came with the added bonus of fireworks:

Hong Kong was an interesting mix of ‘east meets west’. There were a lot of things that were very British, including this:

but also a lot of things that remind you that you are experiencing a different culture.

I will definitely explore more of Asia in the future, but for now it’s onto Australia.

Day one…

I’ve arrived in Hong Kong after a very long day. An evening flight from Heathrow arrives late afternoon into Hong Kong so not had much chance to see anything yet. First thing I need to work on is how to sleep on aeroplanes as I have a lot of night flights to come!

Matt came to meet me at the airport, which was great and very welcome as it would certainly have been an adventure to get to Hong Kong Island by myself from the airport.

I had a nap once we got to Lisa and Matt’s apartment, and then once Lisa got back from work, we’ve had a good catch-up. We worked out that it’s been over 5 years since we saw each other – not entirely sure where that time has gone!

We had a little walk around the waterfront tonight. I love looking at cityscapes at night – so pretty.

Now it’s time to attempt some more sleep before some sightseeing and fireworks tomorrow for New Year’s Eve.

what is this blog about?

Hello! I’m sure nobody is reading this yet, but I thought it might be useful to explain who I am and what this blog is about.

My name is Cat(herine) and I am 30 years old. The last 5 years have been varying shades of awful and so I am having a 6 month sabbatical from work to go travelling, have some fun, and think about what’s next.

I leave the UK on 29 December 2015, and fly to Hong Kong to see a couple of uni friends who I have not seen for many years. I then fly to Sydney on 2nd January 2016, and have 3 and a half weeks travelling around Australia. I end up in Melbourne and then fly to Fiji on 28th January for a week in what I hope will be paradise. I then fly to Auckland, New Zealand on 5th February and have 3 months in my favourite country in the world. I then fly to New York in early May before a 6 week NYC to NYC road trip around the States before flying back to the UK at the end of June.

I am planning on using this blog to document my travels, and keep people updated with where I am and what I’m doing.
